Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ⅓ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp maple syrup (for glaze)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line an 8×8 or 9×9 pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  4. Mix in eggs and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients with milk and maple syrup, beginning and ending with flour.
  6. Spread batter into pan and bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. While baking, whisk powdered sugar with maple syrup to form glaze. Add a splash of milk if needed.
  8. Pour glaze over warm bars and spread evenly.
  9. Cool completely before slicing into squares.
