Ingredients

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)


Instructions

  1. Cook penne pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/4 cup pasta water.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add garlic and red pepper flakes. Sauté until fragrant, about 1–2 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  6. Toss cooked pasta into the sauce, adding pasta water if needed to loosen.
  7. Garnish with parsley and Parmesan before serving.

Notes

  • Add more chili flakes or cayenne for extra heat.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta if needed.
  • Top with grilled chicken or shrimp for a heartier meal.
